GREEN Street Bloodstock made two exciting purchases on the first day of the 2016 National Yearling Sale at Gosforth Park on Wednesday, both consigned by leading breeders, Ascot Stud.
Lot 50, Coral Queen, was bought for R100,000. She’s by Sail From Seattle out of a half-sister to sire Ravishing, Durban July-placed Red Badge and Winter Derby winner, Dynastic Power. Coral Queen hails from the family of Run For Lily and Royal Messenger, one of the older, potent broodmare lines in the studbook. She will go into training with Gavin van Zyl.
Justin Vermaak went to R350,000 to secure Lot 56, Bold Cupid (headline photo), a strong, compact-looking colt by Bold Silvano. This one is the first foal of Cupid’s Kiss (Jet Master), a half-sister to Godolphin Barb Stakes winner Tuscan Sky from the family of Tuscan Elegance and indeed descended from the line of erstwhile champion sprint sire Golden Thatch. Bold Cupid will be joining Mike de Kock’s stable.
