ZELIG just needed the experience when beaten into fourth over 1200m on the Greyville Polytrack last month, but he put it all together in good style when winning unchallenged over the course and distance on Wednesday.
Two-year-old Zelig led the field into the home straight and quickened off his own good clip for a 4.25-length success under Warren Kennedy, who said: “Zelig had improved after his first run and the Green Street Bloodstock owners gave me confidence, they were full of beans in the parade ring, it lifts one’s spirits!”
Trainer Gavin van Zyl commented: “Well done to Justin Vermaak and Green Street Bloodstock. Owners need a return on their investments in this expensive business and it’s good to see Green Street is getting it right. Zelig is a very smart horse, I think he’s got a future ahead of him. He went to the front today, but when he goes over a mile we’ll tuck him in.’’
Bred by Maine Chance, Zelig is a chestnut gelding by Lateral from Zauberflote, by Giant’s Causeway.
