THREE-year-old Radiant Splendour (AUS) scored her second successive win in a Novice Handicap over 1400m at Turffontein on Saturday.
The Gary Alexander-trained filly, a R200,000 purchase from the 2016 CTS Ready To Run Sale in Johannesburg, followed her easy debut win with this step up and looks destined for bigger things. She also raced first time in the silks of Barry Irwin’s Team Valor, after a deal had been brokered by Justin Vermaak’s Green Street Bloodstock.
Vermaak commented: “I saw Radiant Splendour winning her Maiden over 1160m in what looked like a strong field on Summer Cup Day last year and being by Lope De Vega I thought she’d make a good resale. Lope De Vega is taking Europe by storm. He’ll stand for €80,000 this season.
“I approached her owners and structured a deal for Barry Irwin, who’d won a Gr1 with a Lope De Vega offspring last year. Also, Radiant Splendour is from a dual Gr1 winning mare in Australia, the kind of blood one can sell to Team Valor.”
Vermaak bought Gr1 winner Brave Mary for R40,000 off the same sale and said: “Thanks to Barry. He bought Brave Mary too, she ran second in the Ready To Run Cup after winning the Allan Robertson. I hope both fillies continue to do well for him.”
