SOME outstanding thoroughbred families will be represented at the 2018 Cape Yearling Sale, set to be held at the exquisite Mistico Equestrian Centre this Sunday.

Here are just a few examples of the well bred yearlings on offer at Sunday’s sale:
One outstanding local family well represented at the sale is that of Soho Secret. The latter, ancestress of next weekend’s G2 GautengFillies Guineas favourite Hashtagyolo and promising young sire Master Of My Fate as well as champions London News, Kings Gambit and Promisefrommyheart,, features in the pedigrees of three yearlings on sale –

Other great local families represented at the sale include that of former Cape Fillies Guineas winner Party Time. The latter, whose numerous high class descendants include champions Let’s Rock ‘N Roll, In The Fast Lane and Trademark, as well as high class international winners Consumer Credit and Light The Lights, is ancestress of three yearlings –

The 2018 Cape Yearling Sale also offers buyers the chance to acquire yearlings from some of the greatest families in the world stud book.
The Best In Show family, responsible for such outstanding champions and leading sires as El Gran Senor, Try My Best, Manhattan Rain and Redoute’s Choice, is also represented at the sale. Lot 4, a chestnut colt by successful sire Elusive Fort, is from the immediate family of champions Spinning World and Aldebaran, and he is directly descended from Best In Show herself.

Miss Carmie is another top international family represented at the sale. Ancestress of Kentucky Derby winner Winning Colors and leading sire Chief’s Crown, she is also the fourth dam of G1 SA Fillies Classic winner Zaitoon, the dam of a Vercingetorix colt catalogued as lot 29.

Balidaress established one of the great families in the stud thanks to her champion daughters Park Appeal and Desirable, and she is also ancestress of leading sires Cape Cross and Iffraaj and outstanding racemares Russian Rhythm and Shadayid. This great mare also features as the fourth dam of lot 45, a daughter by outstanding filly sire Elusive Fort.

Exclusive foundered one of the greatest families in the US stud book. Herself dam of five stakes winners headed by dual champion sire Exclusive Native, Exclusive is ancestress of numerous high class performers headed by such G1 winners as General Assembly, Poet’s Voice, George Vancouver, Versailles Treaty and Gold Fever.

This great mare is also the ancestress of Lot 49, a filly by the very promising young sire Master Of My Fate.

Other important cornerstones of the stud book represented include Ciboulette, ancestress of leading sires Night Shift, Encosta De Lago, and Flying Spur, is also ancestress of a colt by Marchfield (Lot 73), and Money For Nothing, dam of important sire Mummy’s Pet, who is ancestress of Lot80 –a filly by European champion Twice Over.

There are also yearlings on offer related to such current or recent high class gallopers as Liege (G1 Sansui Summer Cup), Search Party (dual Merchants winner), Nebula (dual Algoa Cup winner), Milton (G2 Premier Trophy), Orchid Island (G1 SA Fillies Classic), Brave Mary (G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship), and promising 3yos Cot Campbell and Sir David Baird.

Current star Dubai galloper Heavy Metal, winner of Saturday’s G3 Firebreak Stakes, hails from the same family as lot 26, a filly by red hot sire Gimmethegreenlight, while outstanding champion Australian sire Snitzel can be found in the pedigree of Lot 75, a chestnut daughter of Dewhurst Stakes runner up Fencing Master. Recently crowned Japanese champion Lucky Lilac gives the pedigree of Lot 90, a colt by Gimmethegreenlight, another update to her outstanding international pedigree.

Buyers are most welcome to come out on Friday, when the yearling viewing commences, and enjoy lunch and drinks at Mistico.
